Can the Inagene Personalized Insights™ report tell me if I have a drug allergy?

The Personalized Insights™ test does not test for drug allergies.

Personalized Insights™ tests for the presence of specific gene variants that are known to impact individual responses to medications by altering the amount and/or quality of enzymes or other proteins that are needed to properly process these drugs in the body. While some of these gene variants can increase risk of side effects from certain drugs or render some drug less effective, this is different from “drug allergy”. A drug allergy is the abnormal reaction of your immune system to a medication. Any medication — over the counter, prescription or herbal — is capable of inducing a drug allergy. However, a drug allergy is more likely to occur with certain medications. True drug allergies are uncommon, and most drug allergies are associated with antibiotics. (While over 98% of individuals carry genetic variants that can influence their individual responses to some drugs, less than 10% of adverse reactions to drugs are estimated to be due to drug allergies). The most common signs and symptoms of drug allergy are hives, rash or fever.
